Conference Theme
Pikorua: the joining of cultures, two new shoots growing together -past, present, future
Honoring our past, our people, the present and the unfolding future is a natural theme for this conference. Our organisations are in the process of implementing new constitutions and a federal body. This sees a joining of two cultures with the metaphor of two new shoots growing together as the Australasian TA communities head into the future.
Eric Berne: "When anyone proposes to consider a particular organisation or group the first question should be: 'What and whom does it actually consist of?'" (The Structure and Dynamics of Organisations and Groups, 1963 p.2)
The conference commences 5pm Thursday 30th October to 1pm Sunday 2nd November 2008. CTA exams are on Thursday and two pre-conference institutes will take place Tuesday and Wednesday (28th & 29th) which will include a TA101 and a two day workshop with the keynote speaker. A PTSTA Workshop for Excellence will be held 26-29 October 2008 please contact Servaas van Beekum to register or more information. A TA trainers meeting will be held from 1:30pm to 4:30pm Sunday 2nd November 2008.
Conference Partners
The Lakes District Health Board Maori Health Team have generously offered to work in partnership with the Australasian TA Conference in the welcoming, supporting and farewelling of the conference delegates to Te Arawa.
Keynote speaker
We proudly announce that Graeme Summers is the Keynote Speaker for the conference.
Graeme is an associate tutor for London Business School (Executive Education), former coaching trainer for the Scottish Network of Business Psychologists, and a UKCP registered psychotherapist. He has over 20 years experience of coaching individuals and groups to deeper engagement and higher functioning. He has the ability to help people recognise their positive and negative patterns in a way that is both enlightening and empowering. As a leading published thinker in the field of Transactional Analysis, Graeme’s intention is to help people strengthen the connection between who they are and what they do. This leads to improved personal engagement that is not just a “better performance” but a genuine and powerful expression of self at work for the benefit of the individual and their organisation. www.co-creativity.com
Pre-conference Institutes
Graeme and Sue Eusden are also offering an exciting two day pre-conference institute:
Vital Rhythms - the phenomenology of feeling alive - 28th & 29th OctoberWe are offering participants an opportunity to inquire into and explore their own experience of vitality in relationship with others and/or themselves. We will share some ideas about vitality drawn from disciplines of neuroscience, positive psychology and Co-creative TA. This will specifically include reference to the emotional "seeking" system (Panksepp) which is thought to support our capacity for curiosity, arousal and desire. This leads us to consider the importance of attending to our own vital rhythms.
The workshop format will be presented in a creative mix of teaching, experiential work and discussion. Learning Outcomes: Participants will know Panksepp's four emotional systems, understand how the seeking system links to positive psychology and TA. Understand how this relates to their own rhythms of curiosity, arousal and desire and know what enhances their own vital rhythms.
Graeme Summers is a Certified Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist who now works as an executive coach and trainer based in the UK. He has an honours degree in Psychology from Brunel University, London and a post graduate diploma in Transactional Analysis (TA) Psychotherapy form Metanoia Institute, London. He was a practicing UKCP registered psychotherapist in England from 1994-2006. He also worked as a lead trainer and then Director of Training for the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute, Edinburgh (1997-2006). Since 2005, he has been an Executive coach within Executive Education at London Business School working with senior executives worldwide. He has published several psychology related articles and chapters including Co-creative Transactional Analysis (with Keith Tudor) and RECIPE4change.
Sue Eusden is a Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst (clinical) and runs a private psychotherapy and supervision practice in the South West of England and Edinburgh, Scotland. She teaches on the M.Sc. Transactional Analysis program at Metanoia Institute in London. She has been the Chair of Ethics for the ITA and is currently the Vice Chair of the ITA. Her passions are understanding and working with primitive processes and relational possibilities, transference and transformation. She works with both adults and young people on the autistic spectrum and is curious about how we develop a mind of our own that is vital, affective and connected to others. She is also interested in transformative learning and the challenges of teaching relational psychotherapy.
